New Civilizations: Advantages and Playstyle
Macedonians
Distinguished by their famous phalanx, elite cavalry, and the ability to quickly fortify their positions on the map.
Thracians
They emphasize close combat and mobility, receiving bonuses for destroying buildings and winning battles.
Purans
Renowned for their war elephants and powerful ranged support, they are suitable for breaking through dense enemy defenses.
Multiplayer and Chronicles Mode
All new factions are available in Chronicles mode—classic battles between ancient armies against familiar AoE2 factions. In Antiquity Mode, you can experience the atmosphere of authentic ancient wars. Unique factions are intended for single-player and custom scenarios; they are not available in ranked matchmaking for balance reasons in multiplayer.
