Shinbatsu:

Places the knives on the rope in response to silent prayers after Miko removes them from the Hunters' bodies.
Chisato Ryoko:

She lost her family and church during a terrible fire and was the only survivor.
She met Ronin, who killed the defilers and left her alive, but in a state of trance to the song of his sword.
Plot:
Ryoko continued to tend the ruined temple, hearing the hum of the sword, which urged her to undergo mysterious trials. Passing through darkness and silence, she comes to the source of the sword - a crane, wounded and filled with desecrated cicadas. The crane prophesies to her about the importance of the holes in life and the light that is allowed through them.

Returning with new understanding, Ryoko hears another sword song and goes to the seashore. Here she discovers the other side of dawn, where the water turns black and the hearts of the damned pray for holes and light to be let in.
